Description
Many countries require a negative PCR test 48 hours before travelling. Likewise, on return to the UK, a negative PCR test will determine whether it is safe to return to a place of work.
PCR tests are used to directly detect the presence of an antigen, rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies. These tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on and is contagious, but will not show whether they have had it in the past, and have now recovered.
- The PCR (polymerise chain reaction) test looks for evidence that the virus is currently present in the body.
- The test involves taking a swab of the throat and nose, which will then be sent to one of our partner laboratories here in the UK. .
- When the sample reaches the laboratory, a ‘reagent ’solution is added to it. If there is virus present this reagent starts a ‘chain reaction’ and creates billions of copies of the genetic material – enough so that it can be detected and analysed, to provide a positive result.
- Results will be processed, and received back within 48 hours, together with a certificate proving whether the individual is fit for travel.
